Client friendly legal answers

The internet makes research so much easier, by making periodicals, books, and previously unknown sources such as blogs readily available at all hours. Legal cases, statutes, rules and local codes can be located and read without leaving the house. With such riches comes the flip side – too much information, on too many levels, often making it frustrating to find the answer to a seemingly simple question.

Don’t look for this problem to go away since the internet grows exponentially. A new consumer-friendly legal site has recently debuted, which should ease the search for answers to commonly encountered problems. Clientelevision.com features a number of short television-style segments on a variety of topics, from criminal law to car loans.  I appear in some of the employment area topics. Www.clientelevision.com

General legal research

Emory University’s law library reference desk has a good search engine and nice table of contents.  www.law.emory.due/LAW/refdesk/toc.html

Many people start at findlaw, which has a tree menu for links to sources of law, as well as original articles. That site is at www.findlaw.com

Local research

Maryland court opinions are published at www.courts.state.md.us/opinions.html (since 1996).

The Maryland State Bar Association has collected useful links; the organization’s address is www.msba.org

The State Government is online at www.mdarchives.state.md.us/msa/mdmanual/html/mmtoc.html

The local bankruptcy bar’s web site is excellent, publishing local rules, opinions and a good links page, at www.bankruptcybar.org.

For a good web directory of Maryland businesses, services, and the like, try Great Maryland.com

 Employment law research

Again, www.findlaw.com is an excellent resource.

A dynamic site with up-to-date news and interesting resources is Workplace Justice.  It is affiliated with National Employment Lawyers Organization, also a good resource to find a lawyer or information about laws protecting employees.  www.workplacefairness.org

The National Employment Lawyers Association website has employee-oriented information, cutting edge news, and a good lawyer search feature.   www.nela.org

To look for an employment lawyer in this or another state, or obtain more information, try www.myemploymentlawyer.com.

One lawyer with two good informational websites is Matthew A. Kaufman in California.  One website is devoted to wage and hour issues and another to wrongful termination.  (Just remember that California law is much more friendly to employees than is Maryland's.)

Another good site is maintained by Maduff, Medina & Maduff, a civil rights and employment law firm in Chicago, http://www.madufflaw.com.

For a Pennsylvania lawyer, try the firm of Lowenthal & Abrams, http://www.lowabram.com.
